Brooke has been in Tanzania since 2002 when she began work as a legal consultant at Mkono & Co. Advocates in Dar es Salaam. Although American, Brooke studied law in Hong Kong and is a qualified solicitor in both Hong Kong and England & Wales. In 2007 Brooke became one of only a few non-African advocates admitted to practice law in Tanzania and shortly thereafter she joined Asyla Attorneys as a partner.

Although Brooke’s background in Hong Kong was insolvency law, she has diversified her practice greatly since coming to Tanzania and is well known in legal circles for her devotion to family law and, in particular the law relating to adoption and foster care of children. Brooke’s current practice is a mixed bag of general legal work for corporates (in particular foreign investors) and donor funded projects and NGOs in Tanzania. Brooke can be frequently seen at the labour courts and tribunals where she has developed a thriving practice in employment and labour relations law.

 
Brooke is mother to six active Swahili speaking children and when she is not busy keeping up with them she enjoys practicing her rusty Mandarin Chinese on unsuspecting Chinese guests.
